Toshiba developed a 20x10x10 cm, 1.6 kg QKD transmitter for low-Earth-orbit satellites operating at a 1 GHz clock rate so large key volumes can be generated during a short overhead pass. Ground tests at Heriot-Watt University showed keys from the satellite system flowing into a terrestrial fibre QKD network using ETSI-standard interfaces.
